Melbourne Day 2 - My birthday!

Our second day in Melbourne happened to be my birthday and it was fabulous. It was a gorgeous day with a slight chill in the air!

We started the day with breakfast in a lane way! I loved it! Look how cute
The coffee over here is fantastic. Jeff had a flat white(or a latte as we know it). Here I am with my breakfast birthday mocha! Loved the chocolate drizzled down the side of the glass.

We were then off exploring again! We found more amazing buildings, and even the graffiti everyone mentioned to us before we came! The art in all of the ally ways was stunning. We will post more on that soon but here is a quick preview.

We also stopped into the Queen Victoria markets. It is a huge area about the size of two city blocks full of little booths. There were some empty booths since it was just after Christmas but it was still good.

Then we hopped on the free tram to the south side of the city where the Yarra River runs.

The river has several bridges going across connecting the banks and reminded me of Chicago a bit! This one was decorated with Mistletoe!

This bridge was called the Travelers Bridge and had amazing sculptures all along it. It also had clear walls running the length of the bridge. Each pane of glass listed a different country where people had immigrated from, including the time period and number of people in Australia. It was really interesting to see where so many people were from and the languages they speak!

Then we headed up to the top of the tallest building in the southern hemisphere to look over the entire city on the Eureka Sky deck.

After exploring a few more funky neighborhoods we headed home to get ready for my birthday dinner.

We went to this amazing Greek restaurant Stalactites, that had some some yummy hummus and grape leaves. We never figured out how to pronounce the name properly in Greek, but it means exactly what it sounds like in english - stalactites. They even had molded the ceiling to make it look like the inside of a cave with you guessed it - stalactites.

Apparently, Melbourne has the second highest population of Greeks behind Athens! Who knew!

We ended the night at top secret wine bar! Okay not totally top secret, but hard to find.
To get in, you have to find a wooden door, with a tiny sign for the Melbourne Supper Club. Once in, you go up two flights of stairs, through the restaurant, and up to the roof! I love the old world feel!

It's called Siglo, and it's a rooftop cigar and wine bar overlooking the Parliament building.
Check out our view!
It was an amazing end to another amazing day in Melbourne
