On the Reef

The main reason we had to squeeze one more trip in before we head home, was that I had to see the Great Barrier Reef! You just can't come this far and not see it!
So on Saturday, we boarded a big ship and headed off!

One random tidbit - we were the only English speaking people on our cruise because there were several groups celebrating the Chinese New Year. The tour guides enjoyed being able to talk to us!

Jeff and I enjoyed the trip over to the island.

Once we got there we were amazed at how beautiful the water was! You can see parts of the reef all the way up to the beach.

Our first activity was to enter a semi-submerged submarine where we got a great view of the reef. We saw a few sea turtles, a tiger ray and so many other great sea creatures.

Check out all the fish!

Here are the giant clams. Apparently they weigh several tons!

From there, we donned our wet suits and head out to snorkel on our own! We had such a great time seeing the clams, fish and all the coral. It was beautiful. We were very thankful to have our wetsuits as several of the beaches around the area had been closed lately due to jelly fish - we saw our fair share!

Then we took a break to walk along the beach and enjoy the view from the island.

It was so peaceful and serene. There were barely any people on the beach and it made for a great afternoon.

The water was crystal clear and we were sad to leave the island.

Then I went camera crazy... I didn't want to get back on the boat and leave so I just kept taking photos of the island!
Here are a few of my favorites

I loved the water colors!

Once back on the boat, we could see the rain clouds rolling in on the main land as the sun was setting.

It was a fantastic end to a great weekend!

Sunday morning, I waived goodbye to reef as we flew back to Sydney.
