Our first full day in Cairns, we decided to head north to Hartley's Crocodile Adventure.
I was a bit nervous (can you tell why) about this trip but Jeff was pumped!
Our first stop was the Crocodile farm - here are a few of the little guys! They are around 4 years old and were running all over the place. I even got to rub a croc belly- it was surprisingly soft!
Then we headed off to our lagoon boat cruise. This is the only boat in Australia that is NOT required to have lifejackets on board. The reason - if you flip in this lagoon, the lifejackets are the least of your concern and will not help you survive! This is another reason I was nervous to be here!
This guy was tailing our boat - creepy!
On the boat they would feed the crocs from a pole out the side. Look how far out of the water they come to get food - super strong tails!
Once back on dry land, we went to the Croc feedings. There are two types of crocs here - Salties (saltwater crocs) and Freshies (freshwater). You can see the large croc behind the trainer! Her mouth was open and ready to chomp!
The scariest part is the sound there jaw makes when they chomp down. It is a deep and powerful clomp that was a bit disturbing!
Then it was time for Jeff to feed them. He was so excited and was the only adult feeding them! The rest were all 6 - 10 year old boys!
So he got his bamboo pole and a raw piece of chicken and had a blast.
All done and a happy man!
Since it is Australia, they do have other types of animals on the property too. We had to visit them too.
Here are the wallabies eating!
My favorite- the Koalas! Check out how he is sleeping!

This crazy looking bird is a Cassowary. It is a flightless bird closely related to an emu! I fed this guy fruit. Much better than the crocs!
We also found some Black Swans! Apparently they are very angry creatures so we kept at arm's length away.
It was a great, heart-pounding adventure that we will not soon forget!
